Hello Pizza lovers, Its been a busy August! I got married and we travelled to Sicily for our honeymoon. Sicily: the home of Pizza! Well, who says you can't mix business with pleasure. My wife loves pizza aswell!
The Sicilians sure know how to make pizza. Everywhere I went. I found pizzerias with a wide variety of pizzas to try. The taste differs to that of pizza in the UK. It must be the flour they use in their bases which gives the pizza a truly unforgettable taste. The bases are light and crispy and I noticed that the pizziola (chef) brushed the base with virgin olive oil before adding the tomato sauce.
For anyone planning to visit Sicily I recommend the town of Taormina. The cobbled streets are narrow and pedestrianised. The views from the hilltop are breathtaking. I suggest a visit to Bar Pannini! Pizza, salad and a 1/2 litre jug of Vino Locale all for £12. I will be publishing a detailed record of my Sicilian trip soon. More details here... Buon Appetito! Keep eating pizza!
